The Federal Government of Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians against purchasing pre-registered SIM cards and used GSM phones from unknown sources.

The warning was given by Mike Omeri, the coordinator of the National Information Centre, in Abuja yesterday during the everyday briefing on security situation within the country.

According to Omeri, such SIM cards and phones might have been used for terrorist and other indecent activities.

“The warning has become essential to save members of the public the embarrassment of being arrested for criminal activities committed with phones and SIM cards found in their possession.

“Members of the public need to report cases of stolen phones and SIM cards to the police as they refrain from buying second hand phones and SIM cards from unknown sources,” added Omeri.
