Rocket Internet’s Kaymu.co.ke Officially Launches in Kenya with 4k Listings

canvasWe came across Rocket Internet’s online marketplace Kaymu, in September then ordered some shoes on it and a day later a guy was calling us to confirm the order and asked if he could deliver the pair or we’d go pick it but we were just testing the service, it’s been years since we last shopped.

Kaymu is an Alibaba or eBay-like site connecting buyers and sellers to an extensive range of products including fashion, electronics, household items, and beauty products. Unlike sister company Jumia, Kaymu allows the sale of old stuff so we thought our friends at OLX were vexed with Kaymu’s launch but they were like WTH is Rocket, we’ve been doing this for years!

We would love to see how the market reacts to them actually, as a public company everybody expects Rocket Internet to be in this market for the long haul and not looking for quick exists. Kaymu will give opportunities for small businesses, independent sellers, and even consumers to sell new or used products online while providing sellers with opportunities to reach a much larger consumer base.

“We are excited to be able to bring Kaymu to Kenya and confident that buyers and sellers will find value in our platform and services,” said Aleeda Fazal, MD for Kaymu. The firm says it has over 4,000 products and is fulfilling close to 30 orders per day. Business owners are rapidly grasping the benefits of listing their products through online channels. One such seller, Mr. Oscar Wamula of Wamula Designer, has already seen business triple since his products were listed on Kaymu.  “Since I posted my shoes on Kaymu.co.ke, I have already received many orders. My business has seen tremendous growth thanks to Kaymu” Says Wamula.

I think it’s Wamula we ‘ordered’ from in September!
