The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) surveys the state of entrepreneurship in 70 countries, of which 11 are African. GEM data (2013), which measures yearly growth of a country’s entrepreneurial activities based on the number of new business ventures (more than 3 but less than 42 months old), shows that Nigeria, Ghana and 5 other African countries have a higher new business ownership rate than the BRIC countries.
