UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon who is on his last day in the country on a Horn of Africa tour aimed at promoting peace and development today visted iHub, Ushahidi, Akirachix and BRCK and said the innovations were the future of Kenya and the hope of Africa.
In a fireside chat after touring the campus, Mr. Ban said: “I am impressed by the global use of Ushahidi, a Kenyan technology.
On the last day of my visit in Kenya. I believe I am seeing the future of Kenya. Technology can be used as a great power to change our life. Kenya is a thriving country. Being at the iHub has inspired me. You are the hope of Africa.”
Mr. Ban said he was inpired by his visit to Ushahidi, the iHub, the BRCK and the girl geek group Akirachix. He praised the iHub and Ushahidi for starting the data revolution, adding that active engagement of the youthful community makes the iHub tech ecosystem the hope for the future.
Mr. Ban said he was humbled by his visit to iHub, Ushahid, Akirachix and BRCK and admitted his limited knowledge and said he had learnt so much ftom the visit. He was also pleased with the number of women in tech in the ecosystem and was impressed that Ushahidi is one of the tools used by the UN.
