Kenya, Tanzania lead shortlist for 2014 CIO100 finalists

cioThe panel selecting CIO 100 finalists has confirmed that Kenya and Tanzania have dominated the shortlist of 150 organizations from across East Africa.

The PwC led adjudication panel has further confirmed that the battle for a slot in the top 100 got tighter with the highest number of applications being received this year since the awards begun three years ago. The panel established the encouraging numbers of applicants from the public sector. The awards focus on the adoption and application of technology in East Africa and finalists will be announced on Monday.

Andrew Karanja, Director of the organizing secretariat, Kommunication Ultimate LTD said: “This trend is quickly spreading with better support system being put in place by private investors and governments. This is definitely what will put East Africa ahead of the other nations in terms of growth and development.”

The top 100 will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on the 14th of November at the Enashipai Resort. At the same event, one of the top CIOs will be honored for their excellence at managing the IT division in their organization. Other recognitions expected include the CIO100 Green edge award which honors breakthroughs in application of technology in the preservation of the environment.

Last year, Kenya claimed top slot as Royal Media services emerged the overall winner While Engineer Wainaina Mungai emerged the CIO of the year. Rwanda’s Anaclet Kalibata the Director General of Immigration and Emmigration took the CIO Leadership award. The symposium and award ceremony is planned for 13-14 November 2014, at the Enashipai Lodge, Naivasha where more than 300 senior IT and business executives are expected to participate.
