Ghanian Government To Invest On Fibre For The Growth Of Start -Ups

Ghana’s government is looking to make start-up businesses swave their way to success as the are investing in fibre to give them that boost they require.

Lauding Tigo Ghana for creating digital solutions Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Communications, Edward Ato Sarpong said: “Government is investing in fibre infrastructure, LTE and data centre to make sure that the environment is favourable to enable young people to flourish.”

At the launch of Tigo Digital Changemakers competition in Accra, the Minister added that investing in young people is a worthy cause as they are the future leaders.

“Tigo is complementing our efforts to resource young people in the country and contributing to national development, especially delivering of information communications technology (ICT).”

Tigo Digital Changemakers is a social entrepreneurship programme aimed at identifying and empowering young Ghanaians with innovative digital solutions to improve lives. According to Tigo, the two top winners will each receive a funding grant of $S20, 000 and expert guidance and support to bring their ideas to life.

The winners will also benefit from a network of existing social entrepreneurs who will guide them and share their expertise on running social change projects. The launch featured students from Ashesi University, Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), the tech community and social entrepreneurs.
