Airtel Gives Free 24 Hour Internet Access to 4 Schools in Kenya

airtel-new-logo-horiAirtel Kenya has promised to give free 24 hour Internet access to four schools in Murang’a, Nyeri and Machakos counties in a move to see more and more students turning to the Internet for learning resources.

The firm says the move is expected to create equal opportunities for students to compete with the rest of the world with aided learning through access to relevant sites on the Internet.

The schools include Nyeri Good Shepherd Academy and Thuguma Children and Youth Empowerment Center from Nyeri County,  Gitugi girls High School from Murang’a County and Machakos Baptist Secondary school from Machakos County.

In a statement commenting on this, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said that internet access is a vital part of the education process which gives students and teachers the opportunity to access unlimited amounts of information to broaden their learning. With Internet access in schools, there is almost no limit to what students can learn.

Mr. El Youssefi further said that, “Airtel is pleased to be associated with the improvement of education in Kenya, saying that “If our children are going to compete in the 21st century workplace, they must have access to 21st century resources. It is for this reason that Airtel is committed to support schools across the country with free connection to the Internet.

In addition to the internet connectivity, Machakos Baptist and Thuguma Children and Youth empowerment center also received office furniture from the company that they will use in libraries, staff rooms and offices.
