MFS Launches Mobile Insurance For Motorcycle Taxi Drivers

MFS Africa has launched a mobile insurance product, dubbed Zem Aussur, unlike any other insurance product the product will be protecting drivers of motorcycles taxis in Benin; This product will be made possible by MTN Benini and Nouvelle Société Interafricaine d’Assurance (Group NSIA).

MFS is known for providing mobile financial services across the African continent to un- and under-banked individuals.

In a press statement the company said that the motorcycle taxi drivers are organised but ofen face similar challenges  which include: long hours, sub-standard road infrastructure, high traffic congestion, over loading, demanding clients and – until now – no health insurance.

Zem Assur, will ensure that the drivers’ medical and pharmacy expenses, permanent disability, and death resulting from road accidents will be covered.

To sign up for this product, all the customer needs to do is get their phone and enter a simple USSD code, and pay only 5000 FCFA for one year of coverage.

According the group, premiums are collected directly from the client’s MTN Mobile Money account. The product is available to any MTN Mobile Money account holder aged 18-65.
