CcHUB Nigeria Hosts First Lagos Raspberry Jam

raspberry_jam_lagos

CcHUB is organizing the maiden edition of the Lagos Raspberry Jam. The Jam is a rare gathering of hackers from within and around Lagos, aimed at demonstrating the evolving maker movement in Nigeria (with special focus on Raspberry Pi-based hacks). The Jam is open to people of different ages and backgrounds including tech enthusiasts, hobbyists, and people who are just curious about the Raspberry Pi and technology in general.

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV. It is a capable little computer that can work as the brains in a robot, as a home-automation platform, drive a motor, or operate sensors and displays.

The Jam is a space where participants and attendees can experience the Raspberry Pi and its applications through live project demos as well as discover new ideas and solutions especially in the maker-space.

Project Demos

The projects available for demo are as diverse as the project demonstrators – including secondary school students, to university undergraduates, experienced developers, newbie hackers, and technology organisations. Registrations came from as far away as Cotonou and Zaria.

Projects range from commercial solutions, to residential DIY projects and on a lighter note computer games and animations.

A sneak peek of projects to be demoed include:

  • A point of sale (POS) device for debit/credit card transactions, powered by the Raspberry Pi;
  • A remote home-surveillance system;
  • An educational portal which allows students to study offline;
  • As well as a number of fun games and animations.

So to attend this event you  need to beat MXLab, ground floor, 294 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba today. There are two sessions; one between 12 to 3pm and another from 3 to 6pm.

The Jam will feature a number of ‘hack and win’ competitions – with cool tech stuff up for grabs.  Attendees will also get the chance to vote for the top 3 projects, with prizes attached to the positions.

Attending the Jam is free. If you haven’t been able to get a ticket yet sign up here to get on the wait list or visit the Jam website for more information.
