Tigo Rwanda has launched 4G wireless service in the country allowing subscribers to pay just Rwf 20,000 monthly for 2 GB data and Rwf 50,000 for 4.5GB and Rwf 215,000 for 20 GB respectively plus access to over 4000 movies and television series from iRokotv video-on-demand service at a fee.
The 4G internet service will be avaialable for offices and homes and will begin in Kigali then eextended to other cities and towns in the country and will be availed hand in hand with iROKOtv’s subscription-based digital entertainment services.
Though the price might be slightly high at launch, the LTE service is expcted to be more affordable as more people sign up. At the moment, both Tigo Rwanda and iRokotv East Africa are looking for more content and acquiring more subscribers to LTE and entertainment content respectively. iRokotv East Africa also says its working with local filmmakers to get their productions available online for subscribers.
Launched in partnership with Korea Telecom (KT) and the government of Rwanda, the high-speed 4G network is expected to be spread throughout the country by 2017.
