
Founded in 2009 by Charlotte Lefebvre, a French designer based in Kenya, Bush Princess handmakes luxury leather handbags, luggage and accessories locally in Kenya and sells them across the globe.
According to Lefebvre, the designs are inspired by styles from Europe and also from the many peoples, crafts and traditions of rural Kenya which are infused into her collections. One of the style standing out is the impressive beadwork of the Maasai women, brass items from artisans from Kibera and skins ad hides from local Kenyan tribes.
Lefebvre, who started her career by modelling in Paris, moved to Sweden to start a successful career as a sale assistant in private showroom for brands from Italy and Germany and then moved back to Paris where she was artistic director of handbag brand “Terre de Bruyere”.In 2008, Charlotte and her husband moved to Kenya and a year later set up Bush Princess style & label inspired by her travels across Europe and the various tribes she encountered on her Kenyan safaris. From its local workshop with 7 permanent staff members, Bush Princess produces its wares for sell to the world.Bush Princess sources the leather and hides from a variety of Kenyan tribes and cotton from Lamu and surrounding regions of Kenya.
