Nailab’s TasKwetu, an online task management and tracking platform targeting the diaspora market was among tonight winners at the 1776 Challenge Cup held at iHub Nairobi and is set to go to Washington DC with three others for final competitions in May 2015 for a $150,000 grand prize.
TasKwetu enables users to delegate their tasks and track the tasks progress remotely via their phones or desktop computers in real-time.
Speaking to TechMoran, Leila Khalif, the founder and managing director said, “We are so excited to be among the winners of this round. We are sure our product fits the diaspora market and the Washington DC trip wil help us in customer acquisition as well as marketing. We expect to raise enough funding to help us meet our goals too. We are so grateful to Nailab for the mentorship, and to iHub and 1776 for putting together this challenge.”
TasKwetu, also raised seed funding from Nailab, a business and tech incubator based in Nairobi.
Nailab’s Operations Manager, Lynn Sellanga told TechMoran, “TasKwetu has grown in leaps and bounds since their incubation at Nailab. They came into our space with an idea and have now grown into a viable business which is gaining global recognition. We are very proud of them and hope that other entreprenuers seeking incubation at the Nailab will embrance the same spirit of hardwork and persistence.”
TasKwetu services are accessible through its online platform (taskwetu.com). A user signs up, creates a task or chooses one from the list of categories provided, pay the service charge through Mpesa, Paypal or other applicable payment services and track its progress as TasKwetu gets the job done. A user will see the list of tasks they’ve ordered and TasKwetu has accomplished or undertaken.
Other category winners include ekitabu under education, Powergen under energy and Hhealthenet under health. TasKwetu was in the cities category and battled it out with Twiga Fruits which laimed to be making $6000 a day in fruit deliveries, a thing judges doubted.
Produced by Washington, DC based-incubator 1776, the Challenge Cup is a global competition to identify and celebrate the most promising startups tackling the biggest challenges. The competition will center on startups innovating in four primary categories: education, health, energy, and smart cities.
