CEO Weekends: AU & Huawei Sign MoU To Improve ICT Literacy In Africa

Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Union(AU) during the Summit 2015, regarding jointly enhance ICT literacy and capability and ICT infrastructure development.

Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of African Union Commission and David Harmon, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs Dept signed the MoU together, and both pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation in ICT development and promoting commercial progress of the continent through ICT innovation.

AU’s Deputy Chair said: “ICT development will drive tremendous transformation in different industries, and we are looking for partners that can work with us. Huawei as an active role and a leader in the industry must have a lot of experience to share. I appreciate the efforts that Huawei has been taken in knowledge transfer, and I am happy to have Huawei in this project. ”

Global Government Affairs Dept, Vice President said:” Huawei is committed to promoting global ICT industry development through “customer-centric” and innovative solutions to bring value to its customers. At the same time, we understand the governments’ urgent need for further development of its ICT industry to support the strengthening of local infrastructure. Furthermore, knowledge transfer has also become our engagement during the operation in Africa.”

David Harmon also mentioned that “Huawei is working hard with our partners on all fronts to build a better connected Africa, because we believe that ICT technologies, particularly mobile broadband, are reshaping Africa and other parts of the world, and leading the next wave of sustainable social development. With our 17 years of experience within Africa’s ICT industry coupled with our extensive industry global network means that Huawei is, well positioned to share the best practices and latest ICT solutions. We are ready and willing to share our experience with the African Union.”
