Tigo Tanzania in Ksh.11bn expansion

tigo-1.jpgTigo Tanzania plans to spend $120 million (Sh11.04b) to expand kits network in the country this year.

According to Reuters, the money will be channeled towards the expansion and maintenance of the telecom’s of Tigo’s network coverage through rolling out 843 new mobile telephone network transmission sites all over the country.

“The company plans to spend $120 million, which is 20 per cent higher than $100 million in 2014 on its network expansion, fibre and opening additional customer service shops across the country,” Tigo Tanzania Spokesman John Wanyancha .

“The growth of the mobile phone sector is a result of… a steady economic environment that the country has enjoyed in the past five years,”  he added.

Tigo Tanzania is part of Sweden’s telecom group Millicom International Cellular and has been busy this year having signed a deal with Vodacom that will see its customers transact across networks, making it the first in Africa to allow subscribers transact with users of all their country’s mobile money networks in February and partnering PayGo solar expert Azuri to bring pay-as-you-go solar energy and mobile payment services to rural households in Tanzania to over 100,000 rural off-grid consumers in the next 2 years.
