The Easter promotion is specifically designed to promote domestic travel so anyone booking a flight to a domestic destination will automatically receive Ksh 2,500 sent to their M-Pesa account. This promotion is valid for sales between 23rd March and 29th March 2015 inclusive, and applies for flights to all domestic destinations available on www.travelstart.co.ke including Mombasa, Nairobi, Lamu, Ukunda, Kisumu, Eldoret and Malindi.
According to Travelstart Kenya Country Director, Bryan Kariuki, explains “ This campaign is aimed at bumping up our numbers while promoting Kenya as a destination. We look forward to seeing a further increase in 2015 as more Kenyans explore local destinations; why we are offering instant incentives to travellers travelling to local destinations. Why should anyone go to the Seychelles when we have gorgeous Mombasa right in our backyard?”
The campaign comes in the wake of recent calls by the Government for Kenyans to support domestic tourism, which is seen as key to the recovery of the tourism sector following its sharp decline in recent years. Though the sector experienced a slight recovery during the December holiday period, industry participants expect a decline in tourist numbers during the Easter period, with coast hoteliers predicting a 30% decline in occupancy compared to last year.
The “Bonkers” campaign is therefore part of a concerted effort on Travelstart’s part, to assist in the recovery.
Travelstart Kenya witnessed a substantial growth rate in the number of domestic travellers who made their travel bookings on the website in 2014. According to Travelstart 2014 data, the customer base has tripled since 2013.
Travelstart Kenya has launched efforts aimed at promoting domestic travel in Kenya. The travel agency has partnered with several airlines including Kenya Airways, Fly540 and Safarilink to provide fantastic domestic travel deals for customers. The firm is currently finalizing an integration with Jambojet and airlines including AirKenya to help Kenyans to compare and book affordable airlines to local destinations.
