Kenya’s Movie Bot launches to be the country’s top movie guide app

capitaI don’t know how many people still go to the movies this days, but I do sometimes and when I want to know which movies will be running that evening, I have to go to the cinema hall and check out the movie times.

Joseph Ndungu, a recent Computer Science graduate of Dedan Kimathi University of Science & Technology just launched an app that aims to help know the movie times from my smartphone on the go.

Movie Bot is a brand new essential movie guide application targeted to all the moviegoers in Kenya who enjoy watching their favourite movies in Kenya’s leading cinema theatre.

Ndungu says with the Movie Bot users will be able to get a full week’s schedule and showtimes of movies. Get a brief synopsis of each individual movies. Get the current IMDB movie rating for the individual movie and as well get a synopsis of the movie and enjoy movie trailers right from the app.

He’s only working with IMAX at the moment and hopes to add in more providers and also wants feedback from you to add more features.
My only worry is that this Movie Bot might not be as popular Flix, which has been in the market for a while and which recently revamped its mobile website and also launched its Android app in a move to get users to search for and book for movies at their preferred cinema halls on the go.

Unlike Movie Bot’s IMAX, Flix had 7 cinema halls using its platfor when we talked and even allowed users to book for them online to avoid the physical queues involved. Flix also said cinema Hall owners can automatically have their movie times, description and actors bio updated after just signing in.

We will watch how the two aim to change these movie search and booking market.
