WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum April 17 announced the instant mobile messaging app has not hit 800,000,000 monthly active users, in a move to connect its billion people target to the internet.
This means the firm signed up 100,000,000 monthly active users in less than four months, after the CEO announced the 700m milestone in January.
“WhatsApp – now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing.” said the CEO in a Facebook post.
WhatsApp is growing at the same speed every four months-signing up 100,000,000 monthly active users and in just 8 months, Mark Zuckerberg’s dream of seeing WhatsApp connect 1 billion people globally to the internet would be real. The firm recently launched its Voice calling capabilities globally, something most telcos weren’t happy about. With free SMS and free Voice calls and Internet.org, WhatsApp and Facebook are a perfect match.
