Rene Meza has filed his resignation at Vodacom Tanzania, effective this September, to head Ooredoo Myanmar as CEO bringing on board over seventeen years of international experience in emerging markets having held leadership positions in telecoms businesses in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
“Rene Meza has considerable experience in leading the growth of telecoms businesses in emerging markets,” said Dr. Nasser Marafih, Ooredoo Group CEO. ” We believe he has all the qualities to take Ooredoo Myanmar to the next level as we continue to roll-out Myanmar’s first 3G-only mobile network”
Mr. Rene Meza currently holds the position of Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania and will replace Mr. Ross Cormack who has taken the decision to leave his position later this year.
Prior to Vodacom Tanzania, Mr. Meza was Managing Director of Airtel Kenya and Zain Kenya and he was also Chief Operating Officer of Millicom Pakistan. Mr. Meza will join Ooredoo Myanmar later in the year to replace Ross who joined Ooredoo in 2003 to lead the mobile business in Qatar and in 2005 he became CEO of Ooredoo Oman and significantly contributed to the growth of the company’s businesses. Over the past two years, Ross has led the Myanmar operation from a green field operation to a fully-fledged telecoms provider.
According to Dr. Marafih Ross has been an inspirational leader for Ooredoo and a key member of the Group Leadership Team and has had a major influence on the development of Ooredoo Qatar and Oman, businesses which are generating strong growth for Ooredoo.
