The online food ordering industry is getting interesting by the day as investors pour in money while hundreds of others launch everyday. Rocket Internet’s Foodpanda/ Hellofood recently raised $100m to expand its logistics platforms after acquiring its competitors in various markets.
Today, South Africa’s Zomato, a restaurant discovery platform which in April introduced its own food ordering, unveiled a separatea app dubbed Zomato Order to solely target customers who wantto order food online seamlessly.
The separate app aims to give users less clutter and less simplicity than working with the main restaurant discovery app. Being on its own also makes updates and improvement easy as well as making product release cycles effective. The two apps will also be linked together to help users find resaurants as well as order food all at once.
Though Zomato Order is only live in India, it won’t be long before the firm launches it in its other markets as its using India as its testing ground. Zomato is present in Cape Town, J’Burg and Durban and is working on a Pan-African expansion move steadily. Zomato’s major competition will be Rocket Internet’s Hellofood across Africa.
