New MPESA companion app TumaPesa has hit over 10,000 users just months after its public launch in a move the developers say will help users never to worry about sending cash to the wrong MPESA number.
TumaPesa displays a user’s contact list and on clicking launches the MPESA SIM tool kit for them automatically with the number and name hovering over the top right corner. Apart from sending M-PESA, the app also supports Lipa Na MPESA and other paybill options to help users send money to the right people easily.
“We launched an MPESA companion app called TumaPesa a few months ago, and since launch we have gotten over 10,000 users. The gist of the app is that you no longer have to worry about sending cash to the wrong MPESA number,” James Wahome, the apps developer tells TechMoran.
“The app presents you with your contact list and on clicking launches the MPESA sim tool kit for you with the number and name as an overlay on the STK page. We also have support for user defined Paybills and Lipa na MPESA.“
The Android app is targeting the many M-PESA users in Kenya who have Android phones and are tired of sending cash to the wrong people via M-PESA. The app displays the MPESA SIM Tool Kit conveniently and helps users perform all their daily transactions much faster and easier than ever before.
Users can also list frequently used numbers as favorites so they appear on the list quickly instead of writing the numbers down everytime one wants to send cash. TumaPesa loads both a users SIM card and phone contacts, checks device and app history and works seamlessly with Safaricom MPESA and other STK based SIM wallets such as Airtel (Ke),Tigo, Vodacom (T) Ltd.
TumaPesa is a product of Kenya’s Ujuzi Code, who developed both PesaBox
an app that tracks a user’s Safaricom MPESA texts on-line to give them detailed reports and analytics on their phone as well as on the web
about their Safaricom MPESA usage.
