Facebook has launched Facebook Lite, a new version of Facebook for Android that uses less data and works well across all network conditions.
Facebook Lite is targeted at users in emerging markets where bandwidth is either low or expensive and is less than 1MB, fast to install and quick to load and has all Facebook’s core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and more. Facebook Lite is being rolled out across Asia, and will be launched in Latin America, Africa and Europe in the coming weeks.
Facebook also today launched its Internet.org in Senegal, making it the sixth country in Africa to have the app. The firm is working with Tigo Senegal to take Internet access to the masses in its move to reach the two thirds of the world who are not online.
