The first edition of Startup Weekend Education is set to be held at iBiz Africa, an incubator at Strathmore University from 10th to 12th July.
The event will start with an open networking event on Friday evening: 6pm with a speech from Kago Kagichiri a local Education entrepreneur: Co-Founder at Eneza Education. The event will later open up to pitches by education entrepreneurs.
This is a great opportunity for edtech entrepreneurs. The organizing team has identified sectors / opportunities which local entrepreneurs can innovate around. Entrepreneurs are also encouraged to come up with other ideas that will boost the local education sector.
Supported by .CO, Google for Entrepreneurs, Techstars, UBER Kenya, iBiz Africa, Nick Creations, Africa’s Talking, iHub, Bonelli Design Firm amongst others, Startup Weekend Education will look into use of mobile tech or education technology to increase access to, and distribute quality learning materials, how can we take advantage of Open Education technologies like MOOCs and Open Educational Resources (OERs) to increase literacy, use education data and education technology to measure the impact of education and how can we ensure that education technology and education initiatives lead to youth empowerment and development.

Tickets are currently available on Ticketsasa and are subsidized costs. Participant’s meals for the entire weekend are covered and access to experienced mentors and coaches who’ll support them in building a viable business model for the projects.
