SportPesa partners with Arsenal FC as sports betting competition heats up

Several sports betting sites have launched in Kenya, eating into SportPesa’s lunch but the most popular and probably the most profitable sports betting site is not leaving anything to chance.

The firm today tied Arrsenal FC into an exclusive advertising and promotional partnership that will see SportPesa look out its competion from using Arsenal Footbal FC fanbase in Kenya and its digital platforms to grow its business locally.

In a statement, Vinai Venkatesham, Arsenal’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are delighted to welcome SportPesa as our Official Betting Partner in Kenya. Arsenal has huge support across Africa and we look forward to engaging further with our fans in Kenya while also helping to drive the SportPesa business and, through a wide range of initiatives, the development of football in the country.”

SportPesa will advertise Arsenal’s digital channels, promotional activities and marketing initiatives featuring first-team players and club legends. It will also offer Arsenal fans club-related benefits, including official merchandise and match tickets to see the team in action at Emirates Stadium.

Footballers and coaches in Kenya will benefit from five-day training camps twice per season led by Arsenal-trained coaching staff.

Though SportPesa is hugely uplifting football standards in Kenya, this partnership is more of a business one. Arsenal is so popular in Africa including in Kenya and has a huge fan base. By tapping into this fan base, SportPesa is sure its competitors will already be locked out from fan clubs activities before they know it. SportPesa on the other hand will be acquiring users in hundreds of thousands.
Ronald Karauri, SportPesa’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are committed to allocating the best resources and support to our players to help them achieve their dreams. Our aim is to see Kenya participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. We are also very excited for this partnership and are looking forward for greater revolution in the Kenyan football world.”
