Cab hailing technology firm Uber and mi-Fone, an African Mobile Devices brand, have joined forces to deliver seamless Uber access to mi-Fone customers.
Starting in March, the Uber app will be embedded in all new mi-Fone Android Smartphones. mi-Fone will be one of Uber’s key mobile partners across Africa in markets such as Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
“Uber is a great way to get from A to B safely, reliably and affordably – it’s why more than one million people use the app globally every day.” says Alon Lits, Uber’s General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa. “Our goal is to connect more people with safe, reliable and affordable rides at the touch of a button and our partnership with with mi-Fone will enable us to do just that” he adds.
Added benefits of this partnership are that all driver-partners using the Uber app in Kenya will have access to purchase a specially priced 5inch smartphone.
In Nigeria mi-Fone and Konga have joined forces to launch their co-branded initiative called mi-Tribe. The mi-Tribe device comes pre-embedded with the Uber app and offers discounted rides for first time Uber users who sign up with the code MIAFRICA.
Through this partnership with Uber, which is a first of its kind in Africa, they aim to give their customers a new, compelling and valuable service offering.
“Today, the Uber platform is available in over 10 African cities with three of the key markets being Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. mi-Fone is a local African device, catering to those key markets and through our partnership with Uber we will help connect more people with reliable and affordable ways to move around their cities.” says Alpesh Patel, Founder and CEO, mi-Fone.
