Motor vehicle buyers in Kenya to register & transfer vehicles online

NTSA is going beyond alcoblow by launching  Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) to automate all its process into one online web portal expecting to save the government billions of shillings lost during the process as well as save time wasted by Kenyans to register or transfer their vehicles.
Speaking at the Connected Kenya Summit held in Diani Kenya, Ferdinand Wangila Deputy Director, Head of ICT, NTSA said NTSA has no prosecuting powers but works closely with traffic police. The TIMS aims to speed up the process by allowing citizens to pay for their fines on spot online to avoid delays on the road as well as end corruption that’s on Kenyan roads. The Safaricom security cameras are connected to our system and in two months all the stickers-Insurance, Motor vehicle registration among others will be via RFIDs.
It currently takes more than a month to register a new vehicle and get a logbook. Transfers also take more than month to be effected. TIMS will help make this processes online and instant.
Apart from helping to eliminate corruption and fraud from the transport sector, NTSA is working with partners to allow buyers to get their log books faster in less than ten minutes. The system also aims to make motor vehicle search and transfer instantly online ending the current manual process which is manual and tedious as people have to queue up at the KRA offices.
Linked to KRA, the TIMS  has modules for Motor Vehicle registration, driver testing and  Licensing, RSL/PSV Management, Motor Vehicle Inspection and testing, traffic law enforcement management  , Citizen Self Service Portal among others.
