WeFarm, a pioneering peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing platform for the 500 million small-scale farmers around the world with no access to the internet is seeking to win $1m prize from The Venture, Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky’s global competition to find and support the most exciting social enterprises.
Over the next five weeks, WeFarm, the UK winner of The Venture, is asking the public to decide how $250k of the $1,000,000 (over £700,000) Venture prize fund is distributed amongst global finalists from over 25 countries by voting publicly here.
The good news is that you can vote for WeFarm more than once; $50k will be available every week for 5 consecutive weeks of voting.. At the end of each week, $50k will be split amongst the finalists according to the percentage of votes received.
Over 500 million small-scale farmers supply 70% of the world’s food, yet many are unable to access essential information because the majority live in isolated parts of the world. Each of your votes could help WeFarm expand into other countries and increase the number of farmers accessing their free SMS network. Farmers using WeFarm can share innovative, low-cost solutions to challenges they face, improve crop yield and quality, and ultimately increase their daily earning of $1 a day.
Access to information for farmers is important for us living in the West too – as it helps them grow the foods that we consume every day, like coffee, tea, chocolate and many types of fruits and vegetables.
Following the voting stages, WeFarm will represent the UK in the Global Final in New York in July 2016, where they will compete with social entrepreneurs from 26 countries for a share of the remaining $700k in funding, taking their business to the next level.
