Launched just a month ago, OCharge, an Airtime Recharge App which rewards users with discount vouchers and deals from Kenya’s top brands, every time they top-up their mobile, bagged the best innovation award against eighty other contenders at the recently held Nairobi Innovation Week which brought together a mix of industry players from government, academia, private sector, techpreneurs, innovators, the youth and other stakeholders.
Held at the University of Nairobi from 1st to 5th August 2016, the event delivered robust discussions on key issues in innovation from key stakeholders like UNICEF, Ministry of Information and Communications and the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Dr. Tonny Omwansa, Chairman, Nairobi Innovation Week said, “OCharge has innovatively made airtime recharge bring more value to something people do everyday.” The innovation week officiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta brought to focus how these ideas translate into profitable ventures. The President also mentioned that the Government will increase annual funding by KSh 100 million. This budget will fund new inventions and the annual exhibition that the university holds to showcase these innovations.
