Rwanda’s Africa Engineering Base is yet to be launched platform seeking to raise $11k to connect smart entrepreneurs across Africa with other computer engineers to utilize their skills and develop Africa as a continent
Even though there are several similar platforms in Africa, SHIKAMA Dioscore, told TechMoran that, ” Africa Engineering Base aims to develop and sustain more African startups to develop solutions that have the potential to grow exponentially. It is all about skills and attractive metrics with people working together in contrast with freelancing.”
According to him, the platform will bring engineers depending on their competence and their impact on the products they build. Startups will then partner with Base in exchange of shares or services fees related to the type of product , while engineers will have options to accept dedicated shares from startups they serve or get paid by Base.
Setting up Africa Engineering Base will build a community able to serve a billion people in Africa where over 85% of SME’s close shop and over $6 Billion is lost due to lack of appropriate skills. Dioscore says the platform aims to bring great leaders in technology to move the continent from where it to the next level.
“The mission of this engineering base is not teaching code,”he says, “but bringing together smart and very elite African computer engineers under one roof to solve continental engineering relevant problems. We are introducing a new business model in Africa, which is capitalizing on Africa culture of supporting each other and a collective society but customized to accommodate global changes and competitiveness.”
The base will continue to attract and bring so many brilliant and competent engineers and business development agents across Africa and Diaspora. To him this will help end the continent’s dependency on aid which has seen over $1 trillion wasted in development-related projects which did bear much fruits.
