Nigeria’s Koumia.com which launched a rebate system for online shoppers aiming at rewarding online shoppers with cashback every time they visit and shop from favourite online retailers has rebranded to OnKobo as it moves to push its emphasis on online deals.
Founded in Nigeria in June last year by Abdel Aziz and his friends Patrick and Ahmed, the team said the firm aimed at conquering the Nigerian market before expanding across Africa as ecommerce grows. The platform promised that users it would help them find the best deals online on Konga or Jumia or DealDey who in turn pay a percentage commission to Koumia for referring customers.
The new site OnKobo, a better tailored product to cater for the burgeoning needs of online shoppers in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation.
According to the firm, its rebate product is currently in beta but still has deals from three of Nigeria’s most popular shopping portals, Jumia, Konga and Jumia Market (formerly Kaymu) with cashback strength varying in different categories that include fashion, electronics, mobile phones & tablets, and lots others. The platform launched with ‘N1000 to First 1000’, an initiative that promises to give N1000 to every user that falls within the first 1000 registered users of OnKobo.
Through OnKobo, Nigerian shoppers could access upto 10% cashback from any of the listed partners on her homepage. A move that will be hugely celebrated by shopping elites especially those that shops frequently online as this will afford them to save some cash for their next shopping trip.
According to its founders, the platform has more behind but the rebate system had to be made available first for a beta launch considering that shoppers in Nigeria needs a product like this that will enable them not only have access to coupons, deals but in addition reward them for being loyal customers to popular partners listed on the homepage.
