Bua App has been declared winner of the Botswana round of Seedstars World and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to USD 1 million in equity investment.
Seedstars Gaborone took place this Friday at the University of Botswana, and 10 selected startups were invited to present their ideas in front of the local jury panel. 6 of the startups were pre-selected, and an additional 4 wildcards were given to entrepreneurs during the Udugu Entrepreneurship Week.
The local winner, Bua App, a private rating hardware and software for social occasion , was selected the best startup in Botswana and will be participating at Seedstars Summit, taking place in Switzerland in April 2017, a weeklong training program with the opportunity to meet the other 65+ winners, as well as investors and mentors from around the world.
Coll24, a fast and collaborated health framework for quick response on emergencies and disease outbreak control came second and CITIapp, another wildcard, a one stop shop for travelers who wish to access all relevant apps in only 1 application, grabbed the last spot in the top 3. The other startups invited to pitch were Stocklive Botswana, FarmConnectar, Buzzz, VGBots (PTY) Ltd.Indie Studios Africa, Passrate doctors (wildcard) and MooMoo.
The 10 startups pitched in front of a prestigious jury, including Marcello Schermer – Head of Africa at Seedstars World, Morapedi, Onkabetse, Head SME Banking at Stanbic Bank, Rob Wiggins- Programme Director at Tokafala, Wilfred Mpay – CEO at Powerplay Consulting and Tshepo Tsheko – BIH Director of ICT and Marketing.
Seedstars Gaborone also featured speaker rehema, who presented a motivational talk for the entrepreneurs and Marcello Schermer who gave a keynote about the African Startup Revolution.
Continuing on its world tour of startup scenes in emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, Seedstars World’s next stop is Kigali, Rwanda for both the local and regional event.
