Totohealth, has raised $50,000 in funding from Safaricom and another $50,000 from Streams Capital to help it expand across the country and eye new markets in Africa.

The firm aims to use the funds to expand into Siaya, Homabay and Migori. Totohealth is currently expanding into 6 new counties together with Safaricom and World Vision in a move to tackle infant mortality. The firm adds that it will also use the cash to help 100,000 parents by December 2016 into action.

Totohealth was recently part of the Merck Accelerator in Nairobi which saw it win second place, and £10,000, in African Engineering Innovation from the Royal Academy of Engineering and further get mentorship experience with GSMA.

The three-month-long Merck Accelerator in Nairobi gave Totohealth access to the co-working space,  financial support as well as through their expertise and global network. Now the testing phase is over and the product is ready to scale.

In September 2015, Kenya’s Totohealth announced it was launching in Tanzania to help mothers in Tanzania receive the best health information during pregnancy, during birth and post-birth for their own and their babies care.

Totohealth’s  two-way SMS helpdesk enables parents to know what they need to do during birth, parents are able to ask and get responses to child and maternal health related queries from qualified child specialists, and in case of emergencies be referred to link facilities in counties that they operate in.

Totohealth also has TotoPack, a delivery kit that has three layers of essential items that a doctor, a mother and child would use during delivery as well as a childcare pack (totobox) that has 17 life-saving commodities for the first 90 days of a newborn’s life.
