Kudi, PayPal for Africa, over messaging accepted into Y Combinator


Kudi, Nigeria’s payments firm which allows for seamless bill payment through messaging has been accepted into YC 2017 batch following other African startups such as Flutterwave. Shypmate, OMG Digital, Afrostream, Oolu among others.


Kudi aims to help its users in Africa to say goodbye to ambiguous USSD codes, endless OTPs, apps and routine filling of card details. By simply clicking on ‘Chat Now’ users start chatting with Kudi to send money, buy airtime and pay Electricity, DSTv & GOTv bills among others.

Kudi promises no cluttered websites, apps or pesky long forms as users simply text Kudi what they need and Kudi will sort them out.

Apart from being a one-stop shop for bill payments, Kudi also offers users friendly bill reminders, airtime topup  and money transfer to friends and family.

On firs use, a user has to link a payment method to Kudi then the subsequently transactions are made in form of text messages such as “send 2k to Chris or , “renew my Netflix subscription” among others.

Kudi is under Facebook’s Free Basic’s therefore users can use it with no data costs.
