The Ministry of Information Communication Technology is set to provide free Wi-Fi to the public in 290 constituencies as part of its wider mission to ensure affordable Broadband Connectivity across the country.
According to the ministry, every constituency will start with one innovation hub and eventually increase to four per constituency, bringing the total to 1,160 innovation hubs countrywide.
The ministry also aims to enhance awareness and uptake of on-line platforms for employment and business opportunities. The projects in its initial stages has had its first proof of concept successfully set up in Limuru.
The Ministry has partnered with Telkom Kenya who will be installing 1,160 Constituency Incubation Hubs, 4 per constituency, to be equipped with 40 tablet devices, per incubation hub, Avanti Communications Group and BRCK who are both providing broadband and free wi-fi.
