Genetec Inc., a innovator of open architecture, IP-based security systems, says that local Internet-of-Things (IoT) IP devices and systems are growing at a rapid pace, but the implementation of adequate security management systems and cybersecurity is severely lacking.

Genetec will host a seminar this Wednesday, 15th March in Midrand to address these issues, as well as outline global trends in Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity and the advantages of subscription and cloud-based services.

Genetec regional sales manager, Brent Cary, says that prioritising Africa is a key growth sector: “The South African market is maturing. With physical and cyber security as a natural and obvious concern, the evolution of the market with new regulations enforced such as POPI and technology improvements such as IPv6, incredible change is happening rapidly. The country is ready for the innovative solutions that Genetec offers via efficient ways to better manage security technology.”

Genetec will host the IP security seminar on 15 March, 2017 at Tintswalo, in Waterfall City to outline and discuss industry trends, along with a review of the company’s technology product roadmap of impressive applications and solutions, which will be available locally.

“We are excited to premiere our new Genetec business intelligence and analytic application called Retail Sense, along with demonstrations of our decision support system for intelligent incident management, Mission Control, which provides an integrated and customised way to manage unexpected events in environments such as airports and transport hubs, education institutions and government / city facilities. We’ll also showcase Genetec Clearance, our new evidence management software application, that helps organise the growing amount of digital evidence from voice recordings, to captured video from body worn cameras and smart phones and more,” said Cary.

“Many customers still face complications when trying to connect alarm alerts to CCTV camera surveillance, especially when an event triggers a specific action,” said Cary. “The issue lies in the fact that customers usually have a video management system (VMS) from one manufacturer, older, legacy access control systems from another vendor, and an intrusion system from a third manufacturer. We would like to help end users imagine the reality of a combined platform, that incorporates all of these core security systems into one unified user interface. This is Genetec Security Centre, our open architecture IP platform that integrates VMS, access control and automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) to one single platform.”

An open architecture IP system gives end users freedom to choose a combination of IP cameras and edge devices, that can be federated, managed and controlled from a single unified platform.
