The solar roof system is underpinned by solar hybrid technology – this sophisticated design means the system can switch between different energy sources. During daylight hours, the plant will be powered by solar, with grid and/or diesel energy as possible. After dark, a mix of grid energy and/or a diesel generator can power the plant, or just diesel if the grid is down.

Being able to power the whole building using solar electricity during the day is very impressive – we’re saving money and helping the environment.”
Reducing its reliance on diesel and grid energy will significantly cut London Distillers’ energy bills – the company will save an estimated $180K per year, and this is every year for the lifetime of the system, at least 25 years. Using less grid energy and diesel, by consuming solar electricity instead to meet its energy needs, means London Distillers will also offset 335 tonnes of CO₂ every year.

The system is scheduled to be connected to the grid in late May, 2017.
