However, since chatbots are fast becoming popular in Nigeria, it won’t be a bad idea to have a chatbot for booking hotels and flight. Interestingly, there are already chatbots for running errands buying recharge card, transferring money and paying bills. But there is none for booking.
This is about to change as Goingjeje is coming on board with the first travel booking chatbot in Nigeria.
Gouingjeje which would soon be launched is a chat based booking platform that will operate primarily on a mobile embedded into ubiquitous chat platforms like Facebook Messenger, Slack, and Skype.
One of the facilitators, Ayomi Meneko said booking process of Goingjeje would occur inside the Facebook, Skype or Slack environment making the experience seamless from the user’s day to day Social Media activity.
The booking process is truly seamless. As expected, I entered the hotel I wanted to book. The bot asked when I would like to check-in. It gave me the options- today or tomorrow. I selected tomorrow. The result came along with 368 matching hotels. However, I was told no room was available at Eko Hotels & Suites. I tried Lagos Oriental and there were rooms available.
You have to add your credit card to pay for the hotel. I ended the test run at this point. The payment process needs to be improved to assure customers of the security of their money. Hence you have to be careful when using the chatbot.
For now, the chatbot is working as expected and hopefully, in the next few months, Nigerians would signup to book hotels and flights.
However, it will take a lot more for them to dislodge the traditional online booking agencies. Regardless, there is nothing wrong with trying!
