Nigeria’s film industry tagged Nollywood is the second largest film industry in the world. Thousands of movies are produced in the country and they are watched all over Africa and other parts of the world. And of course, the quality of the movies have significantly improved.
Since Nigeria produces countless numbers of movies yearly, there should be a database where you can find information about your favourite Nollywood movies and if you are interested, you will know the cast, producers and other people behind these movies.
Nlist or Nollywood Listings has debuted to fill the vacuum and provided much-needed information about your preferred Nollywood films.
Founded by Onyeka Aghanenu, Nlist is an online database and casting platform for local movies and talent.
According to Aghanenu, “Our movie industry produces a lot of media that is not documented or easy to locate so this aims to be a detailed resource for information about our movies/TV shows and the people behind them. Think of it as an African IMDB. The site is targeted towards both people in the industry and movie lovers and is split into two areas.”
Continuing, she said the two areas are: “The Movie Info where you find information about movie plot summary, credits, talent profiles (actors and crew), crew members, stills, reviews, trivia and other details like financials and movie length. In addition, Users can search names or by genre, contribute/edit (like Wikipedia/IMDB) information, review movies they’ve seen and create lists.
“The second is Casting which is also known as Pro features, this is targeted at the industry. Talent–both actors and crew–can create ‘resumés’ that include their headshots, demo reels, and stats (height, physical attributes), along with their credits, which is linked to their talent profile pages. These resumés become searchable and filterable by prospecting casting directors”, she concluded.
With Nlist, Nigerian producers can now preserve the many movies they churn out and lovers of these movies will perhaps have access to it anytime they so desire in years to come.
