Social networking giant Facebook has hit 2 billion users today, becoming the first social network site to reach such a number of users globally beating YouTube’s 1.5 billion users, Instagram’s 700 million and Twitter’s 328 million users.
The firm reached 1 billion in October 2012.
Mark Zuckerberg announced, “As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people. We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together. It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.”
“We still have a long way to go to connect everyone. But we must do more than just connect — we must bring people closer together.It’s the first social network to connect that many people.” Mark added.
Additionally, more than 175 million people share “love,” and on average, over 800 million people “like” something on Facebook. Every month, more than 1 billion people use Groups.
The Love reaction has been used by over 150 million people on Facebook each day with over 45M people in EMEA giving love on Facebook each day. More than 180 million new Facebook friendships are formed each day. More than 1 billion people use Facebook Groups every month while in EMEA more than 380 million people use Facebook groups every month.
There are about 3 billion people online with 700m of them in China and according to the United Nations, the world population reached 7 Billion on October 31, 2011. Facebook has more than half the people on the internet and nearly a quarter of the global population.
