The upcoming iPhone 8 is perhaps the most leaked and the most confusing Apple phone ever. Even the most trusted ‘leakstars’ don’t seem to be sure of what to expect of it. The main confusion has been around two main features; the placement of the selfie camera (the ear piece and all the sensors that are placed next to that shooter) and the fingerprint reader.
In today’s leak, those two issues seem to have gotten a finalized location. According to the pictures released, the selfie camera will remain up top as expected. Adjacent to these setup will be a left and right display area that will show the network/WIFI and the battery level respectively, as shown on the photo. You must be wondering where the other notifications will be placed but apparently there is a “functional area” for them at the bottom of the selfie camera.
The ambitious finger print reader that was to be placed under the touch screen area seems to have been way ahead of its time. Apple may have ran into problems actualizing it so they settled for a much simpler location: under the power button. This explains why the button is much bigger relative to previous iPhones; it’s same location Sony uses in their Xperia phones since 2016. Samsung faced similar problems while trying to place the Galaxy S8 fingerprint under the Infinity Display touch screen. The final location – next to the camera lens- seemed to be a final rushed decision to (say the least). A user keeps smudging the camera lens while trying to unlock the S8.
The leak also reveals that the 3.5mm audio jack will not be making a return on the iPhone 8. It was removed from the iPhone 7 released last year and Apple is not one to go back on its decisions. There will be a 4mm bezel around the screen to prevent accidental palm screen touches while holding the phone. The rear design remains unchanged.
