South Africa’s FiberTiger launches to help users find the best fibre deals & ISPs

FibreTiger, a South African fibre comparison tool has launched to help users to find if their area has fibre internet as well as find the best fibre deals and ISP providers in their area.

Founded by Jacques du Rand, from a personal need to quickly and easily compare fibre options, FiberTiger helps users to easily see and compare their fibre package requirements such as shaping, capping, capacity, data and pricing. Users can also search by network or their favourite provider.

“I created it because I struggled to compare what the differences in offers were, and also price at each level of fibre package across ISPs.” says du Rand. ”FibreTiger doesn’t only rate the most popular and biggest ISPs, we also list and compare the lesser known boutique ISPs that are up and coming, and that provide the best bang for your buck, such as HomeConnect and ISPAfrica.”

There is loads of resources on the site say you want to move from ADSL to fibre and why fibre has many advantages over ADSL. If you’re a fan of bill consolidation, unlike ADSL where you typically need to work with at least two providers (phone line plus service provider), with Fibre it’s only one service provider.

Some other resources include latency and stability given by fibre Internet compared to ADSL. Fiber optic cables are more forgiving on installation and other environmental or human damage – no copper to steal, unlike with ADSL cables.

The firm also adds that on speed and reliability, Fibre has little to no interruption and speed options are higher.

According to du Rand, what most people don’t yet understand is that currently the fibre network is very much dependent on one’s neighbourhood, as most neighbourhoods at this time only have one network provider, and not all ISPs are across all networks.

du Rand adds that most networks, and or ISPs, advertise their fibre intention for neighbourhoods either by putting up lamp-pole signs, dropping off printed flyers in post boxes or posting in neighbourhood Facebook groups. So users can know in advance when they’re about to be eligible to get fibre installed.

For a two-person household, 10Mbps is the minimum du Rand suggests, and if you’re a family of 4 or 5, don’t sell yourself short, get 20Mbps plus; your money won’t be wasted and the price difference is not that much. Streaming users also need to choose a stable provider.

The site also looks at how customers experience their ISP, and the one that keeps receiving great feedback as providing good support, friendly service and speed to installation is Vox.
