Official: Nokia 7 gets unveiled, has Bothie camera mode, Zeiss lens and OZO audio

HMD Global has added a new Nokia device into their lineup, the Nokia 7. The device seems to be a smaller version of the flagship Nokia 8 minus the dual camera and high ends internals. It retains some of the features that made the 8 unique such as OZO audio and Carl Zeiss camera lens.

Nokia 7, just as the name suggests, it is in the middle of the Nokia 6 and the 8 in both specifications and price. The device, however, is smaller in size at 5.2 inches with a Full HD resolution (1080p) and a 2.5D glass covering it.

Bothie camera mode

It’s headlining feature is the Bothie camera mode in which both the rear camera and the selfie one snap photos at the same time. The person taking the photo becomes part of the final image. The screen is split into two viewfinders to show you what both cameras are capturing. Video and sound recording has been enhanced by Nokia OZO audio which uses 3 mics to capture sounds in three dimensions (3D).

The rear camera is 16MP f/1.8 while the selfie one is 5MP f/2.0 with 120 degree wide angle field of view. The bright aperture of the back camera will work together with the dual tone dual-LED flash to produce remarkable pictures even at night.

Under the hood, we have a Snapdragon 630 – known for energy efficiency – which translates to great battery life. There will be two RAM options, 4GB and 6GB, both have 64GB expandable internal storage. Android 7 Nougat runs the show, but HMD promises to update it to Oreo soon.

The battery pack is set at 3000mAh with fast charge enabled through a USB-C. Luckily, the 3.5 mm jack is present and so is a rear mounted fingerprint reader. The whole package is in an aluminum build with IP54 rating, meaning that it is splash proof (rain drops) , not water proof.

The device will initially be available in China ( just like the Nokia 6 did) but will be available in other markets soon. It is priced at CNY 2,499 (Around $370, KSh 37,000)
