Cellulant is being honored as “Company of the Year” alongside founders Ken Njoroge and Bolaji Akinboro at the seventh annual African Diaspora Awards (ADA) on Saturday, December 2nd in New York City.

The ADA Awards ceremony applauds outstanding African leaders who have engineered impact and change to inspire the African community around the world. The awards are hosted annually to celebrate and accelerate innovation, creativity and enterprise among Africans aged 22–45.

Since the ADA first began in 2010, Applause Africa has identified and celebrated over 90 winners and over 1,550 nominees who have contributed to the advancement of Africans in the Diaspora and Africa as a whole in activism, art, entrepreneurship and in the business sectors.

Headquartered in Nairobi, Cellulant is a multinational payments company in Africa enabling businesses and consumers to accept and make digital and mobile payments with ease. The company is growing to fix Africa’s payments problem by working to digitize payments for Africa’s largest economies.

Other honorees include ImeIme Umana, President of Harvard Law Review; Richelieu Dennis, Founder of Sundial Brands & Shea Moisture, Ethiopia Habtemariam President of Motown Records; Christine Sass, Co-founder and President at Andela; and Ugo Nwaokoro, Deputy Mayor of the City of Newark, New Jersey. A special tribute will be paid to the late Dr. Babtunde Osotimehin who championed health and well-being through his humanitarian work with the United Nations.
