WhatsApp is trialling a dismiss as admin feature that allows you to demote annoying group chat admins. Administrators currently have the ability to remove members from a WhatsApp group by deleting them from the chat.
The new ‘dismiss’ feature could let group admins take less drastic action by simply demoting other group admins to take control of the conversation.
The feature is currently in beta-stage testing on Android and is still under development for iOS according to reports.
It is unknown when, or if, the feature will make it to the mainstream version of the app and out of testing stages.
The Facebook-owned messaging app has recently made several changes to grant more power to group chat admins, including the testing of ‘restricted groups’ which allowed admins to ban other members.
As WhatsApp gives more responsibility to admins in these groups, it seems the firm is now allowing users to make sure the function is not abused.
The ‘dismiss as admin’ option could work alongside the restricted groups function in future. Users that are admins of a private chat will be able to access the feature by tapping the ‘group info’ button.
