Eleven years ago the first Apple iPhone was released, and since then it has become a must-have device with people queuing for hours every time a new model is unveiled. It is a phone with endless possibilities, but what about the basics? If you are confused about the capabilities this technological wonder has, these tips will get you started. Your lesson for today is to master these four hacks; they are easier than you think:
1. How to Take A Screenshot
Sometimes you just want to capture a funny meme or save a copy of an internet transaction. This tech hack is simple. Depending on the model, hold down the button on the top or right-hand side of your device. Quickly press the home button and release. Just like that, your screenshot is saved.
For Apple X users, you will notice there is no Home button. Instead, simultaneously press the side button and volume up button before releasing.
2. How to Restart Your iPhone
Most of us leave our phones on permanently, but what happens when your phone is running slow or needs an update? This can be done by holding down the top or side button until a slider appears. Once you drag the slider, your iPhone will turn itself off. To turn it back on, hold down the same button and wait a few moments.
If your device is past the point of no return you may be wondering how you can reset your iPhone. Please note this will cause you to lose your settings and should only be done if you have backed up anything you want to keep.
3. How to Use your iPhone Data on Other Devices
When you are out and about, there may be times when you wish you had internet on other devices such as your laptop. This is possible, and goes by a fancy name with “Personal Hotspot”. To turn on your phone’s tethering function, find the Settings button before proceeding to Personal Hotspot.
Turn this function on and it will change color from grey to green. Change the password if required. There are three ways to connect your device to your iPhones internet. Wi-Fi is the most common as it is convenient and easy to set up. Simply find the Wi-Fi settings on your external device and your iPhone personal hotspot network should appear. Enter the password and you are ready to surf the net. Alternatively, you can connect your phone via USB, or use the Bluetooth function.
Just remember, if you are using the data from your iPhone, you may only have a limited amount. If this is the case, stick to the essentials and avoid streaming movies and music.
4. How to Use Your iPhone to Stream to Your TV
With streaming services like Netflix taking over our weekends, you may be wondering how to get your favorite shows from your tiny screen to the TV screen. To begin, you will need a compatible television. You may already have a Smart TV, or this can be otherwise achieved with a cable or an add-on such as a Chromecast or AppleTV. When you view something on your phone, an Airplay button will appear at the top of the screen. Click this and cast to any room in the house.
If you are new to the iPhone it can be a learning experience, but with a little bit of patience, you will soon discover why it has become one of the top selling phones.
