OurFund has announced the opening of pre-registrations and beta testing applications for phase one of our fully automated system that manages the collection and distribution of funds for individuals who need basic and preventative medical care in South Africa.
The system is currently being developed and is looking for forward thinking individuals that are willing to try out the platform and offer constructive feedback. This will help us create a product that effectively serves South Africans that currently have little to no access to basic healthcare in an attempt to address the reality that over 50% of deaths each year could have been avoided if a diagnosis was possible when symptoms first started to show.
Essentially, our goal is to grant lower LSM groups in South Africa easy access to basic, preventative healthcare so that more serious conditions can be avoided down the line – an early diagnosis is key to making this possible. Our hope is that this will result in a healthier, more productive society that is not crippled by avoidable illnesses.
By paying a small monthly fee, users will be given credits which can be used over a 12 month period. Credits can be used for a GP visit, dental checkup or advanced eye test at an optometrist. We hope to be able to add more medical treatments to this offering in the near future at the same price point. This service will be available via USSD codes (for those without smartphones), native mobile applications, as well as in a standard web browser.
With the lack of space and capacity in government hospitals and the large cost associated with private medical care, the firm is hoping to bridge this gap and contribute to a healthier society that experiences much longer, healthier lives.
Our team of 6 is currently comprised of two developers (one of which worked at Discovery Health and Amazon Web Services), one doctor currently working at Chris Hani Baragwanath, a financial professional currently assisting with models to manage and distribute the incoming and outgoing funds and a UX designer with experience in e-commerce. All team members have been giving of their time and talent free of charge in a display of generosity that will hopefully have a positive impact on South African society.
