StarTimes Kenya Names new Chief Executive Officer as it looks to launch own local TV station

StarTimes Kenya has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Andy Wang to oversee operations of the pay television company with a core mandate of growing the company’s subscriber base and sustaining retention in an ever increasingly competitive industry.

Mr. Wang will double up as the regional director based in Kenya overseeing seven countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Zambia and Malawi. The new management structure presents an opportunity to create synergy across the brand’s operations in the region as StarTimes progressively make inroads in consumer and corporate business.

Mr. Wang will also be tasked with starting and growing Startimes TV local channel and help grow local talent through productions, sponsorships and synergies with local media producers. He is also tasked at growing StarTimes ON, the company’s mobile application that enables users to access television on the go.

“It is a great pleasure to oversee the Kenyan operations and especially at this time when we are keen to strengthen our terrestrial and satellite television service while growing the over the top (OTT) business, our online video streaming service known as StarTimes ON. Am optimistic that moving forward, StarTimes will establish better, relevant and affordable propositions to our subscribers in Kenya and the region,” noted Mr. Wang.

Mr. Wang brings on board over ten years of business management having previously been the Chief Executive in Uganda and equally held other managerial positions in Malawi.

The company has equally appointed Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga as the regional marketing director who will equally oversee the marketing activities across the seven countries.

“Am delighted with the new role, this being a new management structure for the brand presents unlimited possibilities and am confident  the StarTimes brand will progressively harness its operations, understand our subscribers better while presenting an increasingly enticing television viewing experience for the whole family,” noted Mr. Nsubuga.

StarTimes offers pay television service to the Kenyan subscribers with a wide content variety including local drama, sports, telenovelas, documentaries, kids content among others.

The company equally retails its 24, 32, 43 and 55 inch digital television sets as well as the recent introduction of StarTimes ON the brand’s mobile application that enables subscribers to access Live TV, VOD and short videos covering various content genres including news, sports, movies, series, music, entertainment, documentary, kids, religion among others.
