Andela, the venture-backed technology company training Africa’s top software developers has appointed BRCK’s Janet Maingi as its new Country Director for Kenya after it lost its country head, Joshua Mwaniki unceremoniously.
Janet was the Director of Finance & Administration at BRCK and previously Director of Operations. She has done Project Management and Administration at Wananchi Group Ltd and Swift Global as well.
“Technology has transformed the face of business not just in Kenya, but across Africa. This has been made possible by exceptional people. Andela is at the forefront of enabling such exceptional people – software engineers – to work with global teams building software products that impact businesses and consumers,” Maingi said. “I look forward to leading the Kenyan business through its next phase.”
There have been numerous rumours as to why Andela’s former country manager left and TechMoran has contacted both Andela and the director to get both sides of the story.
Janet joins a predominantly female team of Country Directors – Omowale David-Ashiru [Nigeria], Jackie Ochola [Uganda], and Clément Uwajeneza [Rwanda].
According to Seni Sulyman, Andela’s Vice President of Global Operations: “Kenya represents our 2nd largest office, and we need a strong business leader with broad entrepreneurial and cross-functional corporate experience, who would drive operational excellence as we continue scaling. Janet’s reputation for building and leading cross-functional teams, her values as a leader, and her aspirations for Kenya make her our ideal Country Director. We are truly excited to have her on our team.”
Andela launched operations in Kenya in July 2015 and currently has one of the largest numbers of engineers in a Kenyan company with over 400 software engineers. The company has since hired and developed over 1,200 software engineers across the continent and integrated them into hundreds of companies, including Safaricom, Mastercard Labs and Github.
