KiwiPay, a Laos-based payment firm set to launch in seven African countries

KiwiPay, a Laos-based payment solution provider is set to launch in seven African countries in its global expansion move.

KiwiPay has signed an agreement with Laos Central Bank, Laos Ministry of Finance and the Lao Development Bank to provide an easy cashless solution for visa processing in Laos borders and cashless payment capabilities.

The firm is also working with governments in several other frontier markets in South-East Asia and up to 7 countries in Africa to launch the service there.

According to Gregory Schmidt, CEO & Founder of Kiwi Group, “The solutions has proven the ability to speed up and ease the visa process for tourists. We are now testing the solutions with governments in several other frontier markets in South-East Asia and up to 7 countries in Africa.”​

Its cashless visa payment solution in Vientiane’s Wattay International airport has been used for Chinese tourists using Alipay’s facial recognition feature. In 2018, more than 900,000 Chinese citizens have visited the country of Laos and the government is targeting more than 1.2 million Chinese tourists in 2019.

KiwiPay aims to tap into these growing Chinese visitors to Africa for trade and tourism.

KiwiPay helps SMEs to digitize their payments by providing dynamic QR code solutions to thousands of retail shops, hotels & restaurants by enabling foreign e-wallet solutions such as Alipay, SamsungPay, ApplePay, WeChatPay and more.

KiwiPay is already processing more than US$200 million worth of transactions yearly, and growing fast monthly, based on a commission fee business model, allowing countries to move to cashless economies using their own currencies.

Earlier this year Kiwi Group also entered a joint-venture with Meal Temple Group (www.mealtemple-group.com), one of the leading startups in the food delivery space in frontier asian markets, allowing hundreds of restaurants to use the KiwiPay solutions, including PoS devices for cashless payments.
