Maurice Otieno, GM Mettā Nairobi is crossing over to lead Baraza Media Lab after three years at the helm of Metta which was launched four years ago to connect the startup ecosystem, highlight the champions within and provide a platform for peer to peer learning between entrepreneurs.
“I am happy to have been a part of the founding team that started Mettā in Nairobi and helped scale our operations. The team and I have worked together during this time to bring this dream to life and are proud to have managed to achieve a lot,” said Otieno in a statement.
Maurice will be transitioning to Executive Director at Baraza Media Lab, and assuming a board advisory role at Mettā. He adds that this move will enable him to sync the two communities and leverage the learnings from Mettā and catalyze Baraza’s growth and impact on the media sector.
Mettā will be led by Esther Mwikali as the new General Manager, formerly Mettā’s Head of Community and Operations. Esther has been part of the organization for 3 years now and has been an integral part of Metta’s growth and there is no better person to lead the team to greater heights. She has risen within the organization to be respected on her meticulous execution and speakable customer experience focus.
Under Maurice, Metta has hosted and curated over 3,500 events, made over 5,300 meaningful connections within the community and made the ecosystem more interconnected and resources easier to find, even though there is still more to be done.
