5 Reasons Your Phone Storage Is Always Full

Why is your phone storage always full?

I’ve just come from deleting a number of things on my phone and I almost deleted all of my exes numbers until the green light turned on and I didn’t have to(hope you smiled). No, but seriously why do androids get so full so fast? what’s in there apart from contacts and the many blurry similar photos you always take, or the meme you receive from your Whatsapp groups, it’s hard to understand but what’s certain is that in desperate times you will delete your most valued data just to create space so you can take an Instagram selfie, what else could be filling up your phone? These reasons are most likely why.

1. Your messages take a large amount of space

While simple strings of text don’t take up much space, daily doses of messages that contain photos and videos can take their toll. If you’re looking to clear up space, this can force you to take on the arduous task of figuring out which text threads have the most media, and then deciding if you’re willing to let them go into the ether.

2. Media files in strange places

It’s sort of obvious that your photo and video rolls could be huge space hogs. Less obvious: The many apps that secretly contain massive video, audio, and picture files. These include games with prerendered cut scenes, audio or video-editing apps that contain various iterations of the same final file, downloaded-for-offline music files from streaming services, and (as mentioned above) hidden text message threads that secretly contain huge media files.

3. Too many HDR pictures

HDR photos look great, but they work by combining elements of more than one photo. If your phone has a Burst and “Best Shot” feature, it’s could be snapping (and saving) similar iterations of the same pic several times at once. Bottom line: Even if you effectively have one photo for personal use, the process of producing it can take up far more storage than you think.

4. Not deleting old apps

Flipping through a homescreen can be like hiking through a graveyard of rarely (or never-) used apps. And apps—especially games and media-editing apps—can take up a staggering amount of space.

Fortunately, there’s an easy fix. Once you’ve purchased an app, you can redownload it any time in the future. If you find yourself not using an app—but thinking you may in the future—err on the side of nixing it. After all, you can always grab it again when you find yourself needing it.

5. Apps can take up more storage without warning

If your smartphone is set to automatically update its apps as new versions become available, you could easily wake up to less available phone storage. Major app updates can take up more space than the version you had previously installed—and can do it without warning. In my opinion, the benefits of keeping automatic app updates on greatly outweigh this drawback, but it’s something users should still be aware of.
